At last I completed my research paper. The experience of doing both assignments 1 and 2 had helped me to improve my interpretation of literary texts as well as my command of English. I would like to thank Dr. Edwin Malachi for giving me such a golden opportunity to do these two assignments. Lastly, I hope to do well in this paper!

Implications on Education
I was touching on how I could adapt the story into different learning activities. I found it best for classroom discussion. Since the story does not have a proper ending, I could have my students write out the ending in groups. Other than that, it could also be adapted into a play in light of the many dialogues used in the story. The good language used also makes it possible for teachers to teach grammar. This story is simply too wonderful!

Research Paper: Implications on Education
I went on doing my research paper. My main concern for today was the implications on education. Well, the Indian Camp is highly educational as it imparts a message on the importance of racial tolerance. I think it will make students realise that it is not good to look down on other races as this will compromise the peace and stability of our country. The story can also teach students to be more responsible for what they do. They should not be like Nick's father who performs the caesarian on the Indian woman without considering the risk. These are what I could think of for the time being.

Bad Performance in Exam
I did badly in my examination and it was too disheartening. I had spent so much time reading an extract that i had no time to arrange my answers well. I had also forgotten to cite my quotations! Anyway, it was already over. There was no use crying over spilt milk. I would recollect myself to do well in my research paper.

Research Paper: Writing of White man's Oppression
I had spent quite sometime writing on how the white man in the 'Indian Camp' oppress the Indians. It can be shown in Uncle Sam's offering of cigarettes to the Indians who have rowed the boat. To me, it is like forcing the Indians to accept the white man's way of life. On the other hand, The shanties in the strory clearly illustrates the fallen dignity of the Indians under white colonisation. The doctor's oblivion to the Indian woman's pain further suggests the impact on the Indian community as a result of white tyranny. However, I found something incoherent in the points presented. I would keep editing my work until everything is satisfactory.

Research Paper: Writing of Issue
I started writing on the issue: Concern for Human Welfare Should Transcend Racial Differences. Firstly, I showed the examples of injustice in the short story. They helped me to support my idea. I saw all the mistreated Indians as symbols of the oppressed. Also, I surfed the internet for more information but it was not easy. Access to all the related websites needs a lot of money. So, I decided to work on my own opinins with some extra information I got from some of the few-of-charge websites. Though the information was not much, it had helped me a lot in supporting my argument.

Reediting the backgrounds
Feeling the backgrounds too long, I decided to shorten the whole thing. I passed everything to my tutor for checking. She helped me to identify the main ideas and strike out the unnecessary.
I went back home and typed out every thing. As soon as I had finished, I would start writing on the central message with evidences from the text. I would read through the book 'Essays and Dissertation' again for the right format of writing out a research paper.

Research Paper: Author's Background
To start the assignment, I went on-line to search for Hemingway's biography. I had found a lot and finally chose a more precise one. I papraphrased everything. I also provided the background of the short story as required. It took me five hours to write out the draft on the backgrounds of the author and the short story.

Research Paper: Indian Camp(Introduction)
Today I started on my research paper. I had decided to study Ernest Hemingway's'Indian Camp'. it was the first time i read the story. Though very short in length, the short story is very interesting. It shows a lot of social injustice which results from racial prejudice. I was also amazed that the main character-Nick Adams bears a strong resemblance to Ernest Hemingway. Like what has been shown in the short story, the author's father was a doctor. Everything in the story is vivid to me particularly the plight of the oppressed Indians. The story begins with the arrival of Nick, Mr. Adams and his uncle to a logging camp. The camp belongs to his uncle by the name of Sam. The reason why they come to the place is to delivery the baby of an Indian woman whose husband is one of Uncle Sam's employers. When Nick is there with his father and uncle, he is very surprised with their bad treatment of the woman. Their actions totally justify that they show contempt to the Indian race. For example, Nick's father is cold towards the screaming woman by telling Nick that her pain is 'nothing'. Uncle Sam also scolds the poor woman with unrespectful harsh words. They never care a singlr soul about the Indian's plight. the father is particularly cold-hearted in this respect. He is totally oblivious to the woman's self-injuring husband. If he is a good doctor, he will offer help to treat his wounds but he prefers not to.
There is something strange about the husband. His reaction towards his wife is not that of an expecting father. Instead, he appears more like a hurt animal without dignity. The truth all reveals to me when Uncle Sam keeps sitting by the side of the woman while waiting for the baby to deliver. He is waiting for the woman to deliver his son! To me, it is very demoralising to have an affair with your employee's wife. However, no one seems to be blaming him. The worst part of the story is the part when the main character's father performs a caesarian on the woman without any drug. This further shows how unconcerned the doctor towards the woman. At the end of the story, the baby is finally delivered but the Indian man has committed suicide. Feeling shocked and angry towards the situation, Nick tells himself that he will never die and it occurs to me that he is referring to his conscience-if he ever sees the same situation again, he will try to offer help regardless of racial differences.
After reading the story, I decided to present my research paper on " Concern for human welfare should transcend racial differences'

Starting of Research Paper
After posting the first assignment, I started on the position paper. i decided to write about 'TO Build A Fire'. However, I found it quite difficult to write about because the setting and the other things presented arte too much beyond students' knowledge. So, I decided to choose a more learner-friendly one -'THe Indian Camp' written by Ernest Hemingway. I downloaded the story from the internet and read it before deciding on a thing to talk about.
