Re-reading of the Play

I could hardly go on with my work today. I still strongly felt that I had not undertood the play enough. So, I decided to read the play again. I wanted to know how exactly lear is blind to Cordelia's love and how I could link his blindness to his doom. I underlined every single important line in the play and wrote down my personal interpretation after each. It was quite effective to do that!

Struggling with The First Blindness

I visited a website -www.cliffnotes,com hoping to get the required information on Lear's blindness. Luckily, I had found the one related to his conceitedness. However, the writing of it was a hard work to me. I had to rephrase my ideas repeatedly. Sometimes it was very frustrating to have run out of ideas to describe my views. At last, I phoned my tutor about my problem and she agreed to show me some guidance by tomorrow.

Meeting with Tutor

At last I had managed to write out all the three main points of my position paper. I showed it eagerly to my tutor. She corrected some of my language and suggested more specific ways to write out my position paper. To help me understand better, she taught me to narrow down my ideas as well as to make them coherent.

Lear's Three Types of Blindness

I have decided to categorize Lear's blindness into three types:
i. Blindness caused by Conceitedness
ii.Blindness Caused by Poor Politic Outlook
iii. Blindness caysed by the Breach of Natural Law

I will look read the module and the book 'Essay and Dissertation' again on how to write out the position paper. As the saying goes, it does not take the Romans to build the city in three days. I will do some research to make sure that my work is well done.

Dealing with Position Paper

Dealing with 1st Assignment
After going through the required reading in the prescribed texts, I had a hard time deciding on which literary text to pick for my EDU3202 position paper. Since the the selected text must contain a striking issue, I compared as many books that I had read as possible on their central messages. Finally, I decided to pick the Shakespearian play 'King Lear'.'King Lear' is a special story to me. It is about how King Lear, an old king who has all the while been blind to all truth, comes to a doom of his own making. To me, the character represents the ugly and foolish side of mankind which has , unfortunately, been the more dominant part of our lives. We tend to be egoistic like Lear who is too sure of his own judgements. Any advice or opinion by others has always been dubbed as an insult no matter how enlightening it is to us. Subsequently, we go on with our lives stubbornly failing to realise what actually lies ahead. Once we have tasted the outcomes of our irrational decisions, it will be too late for us to regret. hence, proper thinking important. With these thoughts, I quickly wrote down the thesis statement-'Lear's blindness leads to his downfall'. I would give various evidences to support my stand on this issue.

Self-Introduction

Hai! Every body calls me 'Lo' or 'Charles' in my hometown. Presently, I am doing my long distance course with the Universiti Putra Malaysia. Being a TESL undergraduate in the final year, I have to double my effort in my studies since my performance over the past seven semesters has been extremely poor. Since I need to write my own journals for the coursework-EDU 3202(Readings & Project Work), I registered with the Blogspot yesterday to publish my thoughts as required by the lecturer, Malachi Edwin.Personally, I like this coursework a lot. Every student is free to write a position paper on any literary work that they like. The idea of publishing our thoughts via the internet is good as I can work more systematically.
